I was looking at the "Blogs of Note", and I stumbled onto a blog that had an ad-link thingy. It led to a video that I find very disturbing yet eye-opening. The meat issue is much more serious than I had imagined. I'll explain more after the video.
I'm not a full-out vegan. I believe animals are here to provide sustenance. However, I don't believe they're here as objects to deal excessive violence and abuse upon. I mean, slamming pigs onto the ground? Throwing chickens into cages full-force? Seriously, these practices should be banned knowing that there are many solutions to meat production that are much more humane.
"But it's not like animals have souls. They're not going to heaven or anything."
I believe that an animal has a mind, will, and emotions. Why else does a mother animal nurture and protect her young? Why is it so imperative for males to become a leader of their pack or herd? Let's say the majority opinion is right, and they don't go to heaven... so the last thing they see is violence and cruelty, and the last thing they feel is pain and fear. Are we so focused on our own want for meat that we don't even try to change this industry for the better? We need to realize that there are better methods to not only supply food for us, but to ensure that the animals used are comfortable, happy, and well cared for.
