Rock-Bottom Doorway (Bob-and-Wheel poem, written 2006)

He had to go to the door.
He couldn't help it.
It was out of dread, suspense, and curiosity.
When he went through, he tumbled and
Fell down and down
Through and into the dark.
He was blind, unable to see what came up at him.
A beast rising up to greet for the first and last time.
Had our benevolent Creator not decided to
Intervene, the man would have not reached
The bottom of the hole.  A hand,
Swooping down, slaying the beast, saving him,
The man.  And the man hit the bottom.

He found
Nothing but blank space.
Nothing around.
Looking for his Creator's face,
But there was no sight or sound.
